Looks stupid but works great January 28, 2010 N. Bajracharya (Minneapolis, MN, US) Like the title says, it looks stupid but works great. I only use the audio for this. My PS3, TV, and computer are hooked to my audio amplifier through this. If I want to switch the speakers to the (PS3/Cable/Antenna), I turn this ugly looking knob right and if I want to switch speakers to the computer, I turn that ugly knob left.
They should make it smaller and change the color to black. The gray looks out of place except maybe by a PSOne. Also the knob has a tiny dot on the top which tells you which port you're using. I had to use a sharpie to draw a larger dot indicator.
Does just what I wanted it to do January 21, 2010 B. Davis (FLA USA) I needed to be able to run three components (DVD player, VCR, and computer) into my stereo system. The stereo is small and it's old, but it is of good quality and has great sound and speakers. But it only has one set of audio inputs on the back. I am able to run the three components into the Sony Selector, and then run the one output to my little stereo. I only use the audio inputs and outputs on the device. It works just as I had hoped. One minor negative is that I can not see which device the dial is turned to. There is a red indicator but it's too tiny for my sorry eyes so I used a Sharpie pen to label it and now I can easily see where to turn the dial. Not even worth withholding a star. So happy to have found this item because it's made my life nicer.
Works exactly as it should January 9, 2010 R A (Concord, NH) This was shipped very quickly and works exactly as it is supposed to work. I considered buying a generic brand that was cheaper, but I knew I could trust Sony, so I paid the little bit extra and I have not been disappointed. It is really simple and the video and sound quality transferred are excellent.
Perfect Tool December 8, 2009 Garvin E. March (Washington State, USA) This is an excellent choice if you want a simple component selector device. Easy to use, compact and solid.
Excellent video and audio 3-way switch November 20, 2009 B. Chaloux 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered two of these items for my make-shift home theater system, and they're everything I expected. As at least one reviewer mentioned, contrary to the packaging, they can switch audio signals without any video connection. Similarly, even though "In" and "Out" connections are labelled, signal can be passed in either direction, letting you split either your output or input. (I currently have one sending my computer's audio signal to one of three sets of speakers, and the other switching one of the speakers' input between the computer audio and game console audio.)
The product is just about as compact as it can get for switching up to 9 signals (6 audio and 3 video), and the color is actually a darker grey than the picture suggests (which I like). It also doesn't appear to degrade audio quality noticably, even going through two switches (admittedly, I'm not an audiophile). My two complaints are that the selection knob can be difficult to turn, and the red marker that tells which input / output is selected can be difficult to distinguish in poor lighting. However, the construction is quite sturdy; I can't see this item breaking down anytime soon. Overall, I highly recommend this product to people looking for a compact, simple audio / video switcher. (Note: if you want to switch signals on a 3.5mm stereo connection, you'll have to purchase cables to split the signal to dual rca left and right signals, which is what I'm doing.)
